1) Not an Emergency Service
Understanding ADHD and its website are not emergency or crisis services. If you are in immediate danger, experiencing a mental health crisis, or considering harm to yourself or others, call 911, contact 9-8-8 (Canada Suicide Crisis Helpline), or go to your nearest emergency department.
2) Acceptance of Terms
By accessing this website or using services provided by Understanding ADHD, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to these Terms & Conditions and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with these Terms, please discontinue use of the website and services.
3) Scope of Services
Understanding ADHD provides neuro-affirming therapy, ADHD coaching, psychoeducation, workshops, groups, and assessment-related services within the clinician’s scope of competence, training, and professional regulation.
Website content, workshops, psychoeducation, coaching, and social media content are intended for educational and informational purposes only and do not replace medical advice, diagnosis, crisis support, or emergency care.
Participation in workshops or educational content does not automatically establish a therapist-client relationship.
4) Licensing, Jurisdiction & Virtual Services
Therapy and assessment services are only available to clients who are physically located in jurisdictions where the clinician is authorized or permitted to practice at the time of service.
For virtual appointments, clients agree to:

Participate from a private and reasonably secure environment

Use technology that supports confidential communication
Virtual services involve potential risks including technical disruptions, internet limitations, and privacy/security risks. If technology fails, services may continue by telephone or be rescheduled.
Recording therapy, coaching, workshop, or group sessions by any participant is prohibited unless explicit written consent is provided by all parties involved.
5) Privacy & Confidentiality
Understanding ADHD is committed to protecting your privacy and personal information in accordance with applicable Canadian and Alberta privacy legislation and professional ethical standards.

6) Communication (Email, SMS & Electronic Communication)
Email, SMS, and electronic communication may be used for scheduling, reminders, billing, administrative communication, or sharing general resources.
Electronic communication is not appropriate for:

Urgent clinical concerns
Message and data rates may apply depending on your provider.
Please avoid sending sensitive or highly personal clinical information through email, text messages, website forms, or social media messaging.
SMS consent is used only for communication purposes and is not shared or sold for marketing purposes.
7) Billing, Payments & Cancellation Policy
Fees for services are due as outlined during intake or registration unless otherwise agreed upon.
Late cancellations, missed appointments, or no-shows may be subject to fees.
Insurance reimbursement is not guaranteed, and clients are responsible for any unpaid balances not covered by insurance providers.
Workshop, group, coaching, and assessment fees may have separate cancellation or refund policies depending on the service.
8) Client Responsibilities
Clients agree to:

Inform Understanding ADHD of relevant changes that may impact services

Attend sessions from a safe and reasonably private location
Understanding ADHD reserves the right to pause, decline, or terminate services if behaviour compromises safety, boundaries, ethical obligations, or respectful participation.
9) Workshops & Group Participation
Workshops and groups are intended for educational, supportive, and skill-building purposes. While participants are encouraged to respect one another’s privacy and confidentiality, confidentiality in group settings cannot be guaranteed.
Participation is voluntary, and individuals are responsible for deciding what personal information they choose to share.
Workshops and groups are not substitutes for individualized therapy, crisis intervention, or medical treatment.
10) Confidentiality & Records
Confidentiality is maintained in accordance with legal and ethical standards. Limits include risk of harm, child protection, court orders, or regulatory complaints. Clinical and billing records are maintained as required by law and regulatory standards.
11) Minors, Consent & Guardianship
When services involve minors, consent must generally be provided by a legal guardian unless the minor is legally able to consent independently under applicable law.
Additional documentation may be required in situations involving custody, guardianship, or parenting disputes.
Parent or guardian involvement will be guided by legal requirements, clinical judgment, and the best interests of the minor.
12) Website Content & Intellectual Property
All website content, resources, workshop materials, branding, graphics, written content, downloads, and educational materials are the property of Understanding ADHD unless otherwise stated.
Content may not be copied, reproduced, distributed, or reused without written permission.
Website content is provided for educational and informational purposes only and does not create a therapeutic relationship.
13) Third-Party Platforms & Links
Understanding ADHD may use or link to third-party platforms or services including scheduling systems, payment processors, video conferencing platforms, email services, or external websites.
Understanding ADHD is not responsible for the privacy, content, security, or practices of third-party services or websites.
14) Accessibility

15) Termination of Services
Services may be paused, referred out, or terminated when:

Boundaries or policies are repeatedly violated

Payment obligations remain unresolved
Referrals or alternative resources may be provided when appropriate.

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of Alberta and applicable Canadian law.

These Terms & Conditions may be updated periodically to reflect changes in services, technology, professional standards, or legal requirements. Continued use of the website or services after updates indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
